Family aid service

For families with children up to 12 years old

Target group

Families with children up to 12 years old, when the parent bringing up the children has had an accident or is physically or mentally ill or is in a temporary period of overload.
Service

Trained SRC childminders come and take care of the sick child and the agreed household chores. The service lasts a minimum of three hours a day and up to a maximum of three weeks. The service is only available to families living in Basel-Stadt, Riehen, and Bettingen.
Childminders

All SRC childminders have attended a foundation course for working in families and undergo regular further training. Their duties include:
- guidance and active help with the daily routine

- caring for the children living in the household

- tips and guidance in the household

- information about health issues and prevention
Objectives

The aim is to provide active assistance and support in planning and carrying out the normal daily routine. If the parent bringing up the children has problems communicating because they speak a foreign language, an interpreter can be provided.
Funding and sponsorship

The service is funded jointly by the Swiss Red Cross cantonal association in Basel-Stadt and the GGG (non-profit welfare organization). The parents pay a contribution based on their household income (see enclosed sheet).
