Childminding service for sick children

In their own beds

• Target group
  
  Families with sick children up to 12 years old, whose parents go out to work.
  
  
• Service
  
  Trained SRC childminders come and take care of the sick child while the parents are away at work. All it takes is a telephone call and within four hours the administrators will send an SRC childminder. A doctor’s certificate is required from the fifth day. Beneficiaries can claim a maximum of 90 hours of childminding per year. Any request for the service is binding. The service is available to families living in Basel-Stadt, Riehen, and Bettingen.
  
  
• Childminders
  
  SRC childminders have extensive experience of looking after children and continuously undergo training. Their duties include:

  - monitoring the child’s state of health
  
  - taking measures to help the child recover, strictly following the doctor’s orders
  
  - preparing meals
  
  - keeping the child occupied
  

• Funding
  
  The service is funded jointly by the GGG BS (non-profit welfare organization) and the Swiss Red Cross cantonal association in Basel-Stadt. The parents pay a contribution in accordance with the enclosed sheet based on their household income.
  
  The childminding service is covered by some health insurance companies.
  

For those insured with an ÖKK-Kombi policy in Basel-Stadt and Basel-Land the first 20 hours are covered by the health insurance. After 20 hours of childminding families living in Basel-Stadt are charged according to the tariff scale 1–5. Families living in Basel-Land cannot claim more than 20 hours per year.
